CampaignsThe Ministry's very first facility, Mary Mother of Hope House I, has topped the capital projects priority list for a complete overhaul to upgrade its safety with a new sprinkler system and renovations for handicap accessibility. A feasibility study was conducted, and architects are presently drawing up blueprints for the project. Our estimated costs including soft and hard construction, architectural and engineering fees, furniture, furnishings and equipment amount to $1,600,000. Since its opening in 1977, Mary Mother of Hope House I, an emergency shelter for women, has been the beacon of hope that lead to the establishment and growth of all subsequent programs.
Sudan: Water For Life Campaign Since 1999, The Ministry of Caring has been committed to the people of southern Sudan devastated by the effects of civil war for 20 years that allows basic life issues of disease, poverty and starvation to remain unresolved. The Water For Life campaign's goal is to raise $250,000 to purchase two land rovers with drill rigs to make wells that would benefit thousands of people. The scarcity of safe water causes dysentery and Guinea worm disease afflicting hundreds of thousands of people. The funds will provide clean and pure water, the very basic need for life, to a people forced to drink from watering holes filled with animal waste and parasites. Funds will be allocated to World Vision and Catholic Relief Services, two international agencies, that the Ministry of Caring has supported since 1999 with the Emmanuel Dining Room Sudan Hunger Relief Project.
House of Joseph II, a permanent residence for homeless individuals living in advanced stages of AIDS, has doubled its capacity by increasing the number of beds from 8 to 16. An extensive capital project, now completed, including the purchase of adjoining property, major renovations to connect both buildings with a common area, and private baths for each bedroom in the newer facility. We are now facing capital expenses for upgrades to the original property. House of Joseph II is the first facility of its kind in the State of Delaware. The residents are able to live as fully and independently as possible and receive respect and acceptance in response to their physical, nutritional, medical, psychological, recreational and spiritual needs. This facility offers 24-hour care by Certified Nurse Assistants and on-site case management. Medical and nursing services are provided through St. Francis Hospital to assure appropriate level of care and supervision of medical needs.
